說明
1.
Participation
3%
As many of you are already aware of how notorious this class is, it should be intuitive to you that classroom participation is the key to the success of this course. Please help me make this course better by giving me your input in class and also outside the classroom. I would really appreciate it if you could all actively participate in classroom activities and discussions.
2.
Homework
8%
Homework assignments will be due in class on the due date. You should turn in the assignments typed or neatly handwritten. If you plan to hand in handwritten assignments, please be sure your handwriting is legible. Also, because solutions to assigned exercises will be discussed in class on the day that the homework is due, late homework CANNOT be accepted.
3.
Lab
9%
The lab is designed to reinforce the material covered in the lecture portion. Through labwork, you will begin to apply the statistical methods you learn in lectures. You will also be introduced to the computer program SPSS (Statistical Program for Social Sciences). Lab is intended to give you the opportunity to bring up any questions about the material covered in the reading, homework, or lectures.
4.
Exam1

There are three exams in total. No make-up exams can be given except in the case of dire documented medical emergencies. All exams are non-cumulative. Please view exams only as a way to help me assess how well we have been doing.

Project
20%
You are required to turn in a set of statistical analyses on your research project. The project does not have to be fully completed, but the data have to be real. You are required to apply what we have covered in class and select appropriate analyses for your data. You will be given 5-min presentation time slot on 1/10 for oral report—4 min for the actual presentation itself, and 1 min for questions and answers. During this time-slot, you are to defend the statistical analyses you choose and highlight whatever significant findings you have found in your study. You can use whatever media you please but the style of presentation should be formal. You will be graded on both your presentation skills and audience response. The written report is due on 1/17, Monday, at 5:00p. 10% of the grades will be deducted for each late day. It should be no more than a 10-paged, doublespaced, polished report incorporating the comments you have gathered in the presentation. The report should follow a formal format, and should include appropriate graphs, statistical details, and adequate interpretations.
